The origin of Blue Pottery is Turko Persian but it is widely recognized as a traditional craft of Jaipur. The dough for the pottery is prepared by mixing quartz stone powder, powdered glass, Multani Mitti (Fullers Earth),borax, gum and water. Another sources are Katira Gond powder (a gum), and saaji (soda bicarbonate) as ingredients. No clay is used. The pottery is finished with a transparent glass glaze. The blue glaze technique was first developed by Mongol artisans who combined Chinese glazing technology with Persian decorative arts. This technique first came to Inia after Turkic conquest. You can find urns, jars, pots and vases, tea sets, cups and saucers, plates and glasses, jugs, ashtrays, napkin rings etc.
